With blood ties to Bill Talbot (Crazy Horse) and time spent touring with Bright Eyes, Consafos' pedigree nobly precedes them. The good news is that their spacey alt country is about as cool as the Cowboy Junkies were when they first got started. The difference here is the manner in which singer Stefanie Drootin's engaging and vibrant voice grabs hold of the material and doesn't let go. This isn't the narcotic country that Mazzy Star and Cowboy Junkies played; this is a continuation of that music, with more elements of indie pop worked in. |
