Dobie Gray
Besides being half of the pop duo Sonny & Cher, Sonny Bono produced music as
the A & R Manager of Specialty Records and signed a Texas-born soul singer
named Dobie Gray.
In 1965 Dobie Grays' first notable single "Look At Me" hit the charts, but his
breakthrough hit came with the release of "The In Crowd," a song that remained
on the Billboard charts for more than three months. But Gray's biggest hit and
the song most people relate to is "Drift Away," a Top Ten hit and one of the
most popular tunes in 1973.
Dobie Gray's distinctive, inspiring voice has been thrilling audiences all over
the world for more than four decades. Gray has earned the respect and
admiration of not only his fans, but his peers as well. In fact, Gray teamed
up with Uncle Kracker in 2003 for Kracker's "No Stranger To Shame" lp and
appeared in the video and sang on Kracker's cover of "Drift Way."
