Grunge-less Seattle outfit the Walkabouts have remained sharply in contrast to their hometown stigma since their inception in 1984. Owing more to the work of country-infected '80s acts like Green on Red than the angular thunder of early grungesters Green River, Chris Eckman's acoustic-friendly music has found a home with rootsy purists and indie-folk fans alike. Rarely amplified beyond a quiet roar, the Walkabouts' orchestrated melodies are embellished with dueling male/female vocals, straightforward rhythms, and a little backwoods creepiness courtesy of those dark woods of the Pacific Northwest. |
