Dominated by vocalist Greg Dulli, these cult favorites have been pounding out drunken, Replacements-flavored rock for over a decade. Perhaps the last true rock-star singer, Dulli's love-'em-or-hate-'em vocals sneer with dramatic arrogance and profound passion while swaggering guitars embody predatory attitude and confidence. Given their tendency toward slippery swank, it is no surprise that Soul and R&B have steadily crept into the Afghan Whigs' style, becoming more recognizable with each release. Though the band has spent the bulk of their career on the brink of stardom, they've never quite broken beyond a substantial legion of devotees enamored of their thinly veiled sleaze.
