One of the most successful British bands of the 70's, Slade, made their living
taking advantage of the glitter-rock era with a thunderous rhythm section along
with lead singer Noddy Holder's unbridled, raucous vocals to produce several
highly charted albums and singles.
Hailing from Wolverhampton, UK (near Birmingham), the band started out as the
"In Betweens." With former Animal bassist Chas Chandler as their manager, they
changed their name to Slade. With their unique misspellings of the English
language, the group scored hits with songs like "Cum On Feel The Noize" (later
redone and made famous by the rock band Quiet Riot), the foot stomping relic,
"Mama Weer All Crazee Now" and "Skweeze Me Pleeze Me," among others.
Although Slade had a number of number one hits in the UK, they were barely
notice in the U.S., but they did enjoy a brief revival in the early eighties
after the Quiet Riot cover put them on the map. They secured two Billboard Top
40 hits in the U.S. with the songs "Run Runaway" and "My Oh My."
After a few more moderate successful album releases, Slade split up in 1992.
But guitarist Dave Hill and drummer Don Powell and two new members carry on
Slade's legacy playing simple stomp your feet rock and roll.
