It couldn`t be simpler... Just go to the GEMM home page at http://www.gemm.com/ (you can just type the address "gemm" in most browsers), and type the name of the artist, author or title you`re looking for!

For artists and authors with first and last names, both "Jimi Hendrix" and "Hendrix, Jimi" will work, or you can just use the last name.

By default, GEMM lists every match to your search including new, used, imports, CD and vinyl. However, if you`re just looking for a particular type of item (just new CDs for instance), you can turn on a "filter" in GEMM.

Click on the link named "User Tools" that appears on the menu bar below the search button at the top of the screen. Then, select "Filter". You`ll see a form with a number of fields. Fill in any criteria that you desire, and leave the remaining fields blank.

The filter will remain in place for the remainder of your session, or until you click on the "off" button.

Sorry, we don`t offer this capability yet.

For information about a particular seller, type in the seller`s name as if it were an artist or title. Any matches will appear at the top of the search results screen above any artists or titles that may also happen to match.

If you`d rather not see the artists and titles, type the word "SELLER" in front of the seller name, like this:

If you don`t see the seller, try just typing "SELLER" followed by the first part of their name or their e-mail address.

If you have a favorite seller in GEMM whose catalog you`d like to browse exclusively, you can go to their page in GEMM (type SELLER) and use the search box located on their info page.

You can also perform searches by including SELLER at the end of your search phrase like this:

To search for items within a certain price range, type the phrase "PRICEUNDER .... " after your query like this:


HENDRIX PRICE UNDER $10

You can also use the "filter" mentioned above to perform this type of search.

The information that you see in GEMM comes directly from many different seller`s catalogs. While we standardize this information and continue to do so, there is still some inconsistency in abbreviations, especially for media.

Most vinyl is graded under the "Goldmine" standard, although it may vary. Check the grading description for each vendor.

If the abbreviation you are looking for is not listed above, your best bet is to contact the item`s seller directly. The seller`s contact info is displayed beneath the item info in GEMM.

Remember that GEMM is only the Marketplace through which many different sellers advertise and process your orders. We don`t possess any information beyond what you see in our site. To obtain further information on a product, you must contact the seller directly.

GEMM participants range from mom-and-pop stores who will be glad to answer you personally and promptly to high-volume, low margin retailers who do not have much additional information on their product and whose policy, due to time restrictions, is to process orders and respond with form letters only.

Currently, the best way to determine what kind of seller you are dealing with is to read the description text appearing with the seller info. Looking at the size of their catalog will also give an idea of how close a dealer is to its` inventory. Generally, you can get good information and personal service if the seller offers less than 20,000 items. Discount domestic and import retailers receive lists of hundreds of thousands of items from their retailers and have no further information on hand.

In the future, we`ll be compiling and presenting more objective background information on our experience with individual sellers, the feedback we have received about them, and the likelihood that they will respond to your inquiries in a satisfactory way.
