| Yak are an instrumental Progressive Rock Band who hail from Essex in the United Kingdom. The Band was formed in 1982 but folded in 1984. Yak founder Martin Morgan kept the music "alive" over the next 20 years (as no official recordings were made when the band was playing). Finally in 2004 Martin released an album called Dark Side of the Duck as a solo project with Martin emulating the 4 piece band electronically. The positive reviews encouraged the old band to get back together & two jam sessions were recorded in 2005 & 2006. The highligts of each one were released on CD in those years as "Does your Yak Bite?" in '05 & "The Rutland Chronicles" in '06 Martin then started to write new material & set this streaming on the Yak myspace page. This caught the attention of Dave Speight who was drumming for Peter Banks (Ex YES) & also Nick May (Ex-The ENID) & together with Gary Bennett on Bass the three piece recorded the "Journey of the Yak" album in 2008. This has been a great success & the reviews have been excellent. (As a reference point, reviewers are citing early Genesis, Steve Hackett, UK & Greenslade as reference points) Kinesis CD's in the USA said "Just when you've despaired of ever hearing a British prog band create the real thing again, you are rescued by a Yak" What more can I say ! The title track of the album was featured on PROGNOSIS4 - the CD that comes with the new Classic Rock Presents PROG magazine & the band will be appearing as a feature in the January ('10) issue of the magazine The album was also selected as album of the month for Jan '09 by the webzine Progressive Rock & Progressive Metal.
