Acappellago sets a new standard for a cappella CD`s. Through the subtle
use of sounds and effects, each of the thirteen rock classics is set in
it`s own individual "soundscape". The album opens with a cut that
sounds like it`s "coming in" through a shortwave transmitter and then
abruptly moves to a lightning-fast version of "Istanbul". "Bus Stop"
puts the listener at a bus stop on a rainy day. "Come Go With Me" is
sung, doo-wop style, in a bathroom.
There`s humor, too, with
between-song patter and tunes like Harry Nilson`s "Coconut" and David
Seville`s "Witch Doctor".
JimPeterik makes a guest appearance,
reprising his guitar solo from "Vehicle" (the hit he wrote and
originally performed with The Ides Of March).
Acappellago is a great
album for those who like listening on headphones. "Because", "It`s For
You", and "Need You Tonight" feature amazing spatial effects, with
swooping pans and deep phasing.
Rounding out the disk are
outstanding a cappella versions of "I Want You To Want Me", "409", the
grammy award winning "Kiss from A Rose", and "Some Kind Of
Wonderful".
