A superior sense of melody and a confident use of the indie genre^s
noise, silence and weirdness
The critics at Gaffa,
Denmark^s biggest music magazine are pleased with Racetrack Babies
newest release ^Summer Salt Santiago^, the band^s third since forming
in 1998 in Denmark. Racetrack Babies hope that their critical acclaim
will carry over to The States, when they release their first US album
at the beginning of November 2006.
So what makes
Racetrack Babies different? The recipe is simple: Add a dose of indie
pioneers (such as Dinosaur Jr., Pixies, Madrugada and Sonic Youth); mix
with a generous amount of John Agnello (producer and mixer for many
artists, including Patti Smith, Steve Wynn, Dinosaur Jr.). And last but
not least, sprinkle with songwriter and lead singer Hans Christian
Wayne^s Scandinavian creativity, and voila, you^ve got ^Summer Salt
Santiago^.
The creation of the album came about in an
untraditional way. All in all, the band brought 30 songs to the studio,
all in sketch form, taped on an old Dictaphone. Minutes before the
recording sessions started, the band listened to the songs, and
immediately picked the songs that they wanted to include on the album.
Not long after, all tracks were laid down ^ no hesitation, only pure
impulsive magic. The result is raw, noisy and beautiful.
Besides Hans Christian Wayne on vibrant vocals, Racetrack Babies
consist of Cecilie Ravik on beating bass, Morten Soefting on daring
drums, and Soeren Hansen on groundbreaking guitar. Through passion and
pain, they will attempt to win over America^s indie-loving heart! | |
